Nycomed agreed with Bayer Schering Pharma on the sale of the preclinical anti-cancer program. The agreement is part of Nycomed's strategic decision not to further invest in oncology R&D activities. As the final step in the divestment of its Oncology portfolio, Nycomed agreed with Bayer Schering Pharma on the sale of a kinase inhibitor program, targeting a key growth and survival pathway in cancer. 
Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE) reported financial results for the second-quarter 2008. The Company recorded revenues of $12.1 billion, an increase of 9% compared with $11.1 billion in the year-ago quarter. In the U.S., revenues were $4.8 billion, a decrease of 2%, while international revenues were $7.4 billion, an increase of 18%. Revenues reflect the positive impact of foreign exchange, which increased revenues by approximately $800 million or 7%, as well as the solid performance of many key products. 
Abbott (NYSE: ABT) announced financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2008.
Shire Limited (LSE: SHP, NASDAQ: SHPGY), the global specialty biopharmaceutical company, announced that Maia Elfte Vermögensverwaltungs-GmbH, to be renamed "Shire Deutschland Investments GmbH", a German indirect subsidiary of Shire Limited, will launch a voluntary public takeover offer for shares in Jerini AG (FSE:JI4, ISIN: DE0006787476), the publicly listed German biotechnology company. 
Roche announced that its ownership stake in Chugai will increase from 50.1% to 59.9% following the successful completion of the tender offer which started on 23 May. Chugai shareholders had the opportunity to tender their shares at a price of Yen 1,730 per share, which reflects a premium of 11.7% over Chugai’s share price of Yen 1,549 at the close of trading on 21 May 2008. 
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced that it has completed its acquisition of Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Sirtris) for approximately USD720 million (or approx. GBP362 million) through a cash tender offer of USD22.50 (or approx. GBP11.33) per share.
